Senior Cell Phones

These are the companies that have cell phones or plans for seniors market or people who just want a simple easy to use phone without all the generation Y technlology attached.

A Senior Cell Phone should have the following features:

  • They should be easy to use,
  • They should forget about all that twittering, internet browsing stuff. phones radios
  • They should have an easy to read screen
  •  Have a larger key pad and be easy to use .
  • Have simple navigation.
  • They should have clear sound.
  • Should haveEasy and flexible plans
  • 30 Day Trial period

Easily the best and most flexable is the Jitterbug phone by Great Call.  They designed their phone with the seniors market in mind. And they meet all of the above features.Their cell phone is super simple to use and their call plans start at 14.99, they have no contracts and 24 hour operator assistance.

The other companies that offer services Seniors are:

Verizon have Verizon Nationwide 65 Plus plan. This plan is for over 65’s and starts at $29.99 per month and has a 1 or 2 year contract. Verizon also have the Wireless Coupe hand set, with larger keys and a good display. This phone has had mixed reviews.

AT&T have the AT&T Senior Nation 200 is similar to the Verizon plan and starts at at $29.99 per month for 200 anytime minutes and has a 2 year contract.

If you are looking for a simple to use handset to go with these senior plans PC Magazines Sascha Segan recommends the Motorola’s RAZR or Motorola E815 or LG VX8000. I will be reviewing simple cell phones in later posts.

Now these phones are not designed especially for seniors to use but they are relatively easy to use, and have a few more features that some folks might like.

UTStarcom Coupe 8630 Senior Cell Phone

This phone has great user reviews for use by senior citizens.

People like the large keypad, the four dedicated emergency speed dial keys. It has a large crisp display and it has top level hearing aid compatability. The sound quality is also very good.

Other features also include the speakerphone, voice dialling and text messaging.

One user said “Extremely intuitive layout and keypad size. Displays are large and very readable. Sound quality very good.”

Another user said that the “speech recognition button on the side is sensitive. If i had it in school, and the button was accidentally pushed, it would make a noise and i would have to take it out and open in and push the “end” button.”

The problem was easily solved by locking the phone.

The phone is a clam shell type so keeping it closed when not being used will prevent the buttons being accidentally pressed

You can get an unlocked Audiovox UTStarcom CDM 8630 Verizon Coupe here and Consumer Cellular will provide with an inexpensive no contract plan.
